To help safeguard our customers’ personal information, like their Social Security number and bank account information, the latest Intuit products will not work with Windows 7.

Microsoft recommends that Windows 7 users upgrade to Windows 10.

If you have TurboTax and QuickBooks Desktop Software, upgrading to Windows 10 is recommended

You can use TurboTax and QuickBooks Desktop on any operating system listed in the products system requirements (Windows 8/Windows 8.1/Windows 10). Windows 7 is no longer a supported operating system.

No need to re-purchase TurboTax or QuickBooks

Once you’ve upgraded your Windows operating system, your current version of TurboTax or QuickBooks Desktop will work on your PC. You don’t have to buy them again.

Do I need to upgrade if I have Windows Server 2008?

Because Microsoft will no longer provide security updates or support for PCs running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 starting on January 14, 2020, we strongly recommend that desktop customers using Windows 7 upgrade to Windows 10 before installing their product.

TurboTax for tax year 2019 will install on Windows 7 (Service Pack 1 or later), but when TurboTax for tax year 2020 is released, all TurboTax desktop products will cease installing on Windows 7.

And while you can still use TurboTax 2019 on Windows 7 (Service Pack 1 or later), there are a couple risks in doing so:

Your computer will be more vulnerable to security risks and viruses because Microsoft will no longer provide security updates and support for your PC.
You won’t be able to install future versions of TurboTax on your PC. You’ll need to upgrade to a newer version of Windows next year.

We recommend upgrading to Windows 10 for the highest level of security, but you can upgrade to Windows 8 or 8.1 and still use TurboTax without these risks. You can learn more by clicking here.
